![]() ![]() The results show that Venezuelan women face a range of adverse events throughout the migration cycle. The semi-structured, individual interviews were analyzed thematically. A qualitative case study was carried out with 22 participants in the Antofagasta region of Chile, including Venezuelan migrant women, healthcare professionals, and social workers from the public healthcare system, stakeholders from non-governmental and international organizations, and local government officials. This study aims at describing Venezuelan women’s perceptions of their health needs as they migrate to Chile via an unauthorized crossing point, with a focus on adverse events throughout the migration cycle, self-reported health needs, and responses. This poses important challenges in terms of short- and long-term health outcomes, the social determinants of health, and access to healthcare. In this context, gender and migration intersect as the social determinants of health, leading to their experiencing a range of adverse events. In parallel to the COVID-19 pandemic, Chile has experienced a significant influx of international migrants, many of whom are Venezuelan women who have entered the country through unauthorized crossing points. Recent and pertinent data is needed to properly identify and measure the risks and negative consequences that workers and families are exposed caused by the ongoing crisis. Quality of life and wellbeing of most of the Venezuelan population has being deteriorated in the last 5 years and Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) is not a priority for enterprises in the middle of the economic emergency and general deterioration of daily life.Despite the relevance of this problem, research on the subject is very limited. As a result, over 1.6 million Venezuelans have left their country since 2015 in a migration crisis never seen before in Latin America. Being a formal employee is no longer a guarantee for an acceptable quality of life. General violence and high prices of basic goods are some of the major problems affecting workers both inside and outside of their working environment. Low salaries and soaring inflation have resulted in a dramatic reduction in the purchasing power of the people.
